The Paddy Creek Wilderness is a 7,acre ( km2) wilderness area in the U.S. state of Missouri, United States. The United States Congress designated it wilderness in Paddy Creek Wilderness is located within the Houston-Rolla Ranger District, of the Mark Twain National Forest, 10 miles (16 km) northwest of Licking, Missouri.

Note Paddy Creek Wilderness map (USFS) shows the map leaves the road after about miles. This trail segment seems to be gone and has been replaced by the Military Road. As such, the trail follows the road until the next waypoint. Waypo miles (N W).

To finish the hike, get back on the trail and head north and downhill to Big Paddy Creek. Traverse along the southern edge of a bluff, before climbing it to a wonderful view of Big Piney River (“” on the map).

Maybe it's just because I've only done it during the fall when the leaves are changing, but I honestly think. The main trail in the wilderness is the mile Whites Creek Trail.

The Irish Wilderness is named because it was settled by Irish immigrants before the Civil War. Lead by a Catholic Priest, Father John Hogan, it was a place to escape the difficult urban life of the time. Here you can soak in the ever flowing, crystal clear creek waters. With campgrounds and picnic areas you may never want to leave this sweetness, but if you do you’ll have access to the adjacent Paddy Creek Wilderness through the trailhead for Big Piney Trail.

Lake James State Park is one of North Carolina’s most visited parks. It consists of two separate areas a few miles apart: the Catawba River Area to the south of Lake James and the Paddy’s Creek Area to the north-east. The Catawba River Area offers several hiking trails, picnic areas, and 20 campsites.

Along the trails, hikers get rewarded with beautiful views. Sweeping views are one of the hallmarks of this hike. Heavy forest foliage can hide vistas in mid-summer; consider hiking in the spring and fall.
